Detectives and Crime

Well, I am enjoying the flood of comments! Many of you are asking about the sequel. It is being sketched out as we speak. For now, I am working on a book that is quite different. I will explain that at a later time. I hope to have The Club debut in print soon and will let you know that as well!

Follow me @TheGreenAuthor on Twitter for more quick surprises, and deals.

Now, as for detectives and crime? Well, The Club is more than it seems. Riley and Jackie are just scratching the surface…I hope you have grown to love their interactions as much as I did writing them.

So many questions about who will be in the sequel…well let’s just say that if you do a count on who is left…you might have a good idea. I cannot create so many fun people, leave them alive, and not bring them back!

Take care and keep the comments coming.

Crime and Punishment

Yes, I did write The Club in response to some people who are close to me that experienced some difficulty with finding justice. I have had some of you writing to tell me of your experiences with similar problems. I can say that I do believe in the system, but it was terribly difficult to watch people we love endure the pain of being wronged and the justice system fail them.  I was sitting with my husband and talking over the frustrations that we felt over this and other situations like it when I blurted out the idea for this book. He sat quietly and I wasn’t even sure he was listening until he looked up at me and said I should write the book. It was several months later when he brought it up to me again. I decided then that it was a worthy subject and started sketching out the characters and storyline. Within a few weeks, I had a shell for the story and set it aside. Over a two-year period, I would pick it up and maybe write a little; but I didn’t really start seriously finishing it until last year. Around the end of the summer, I completed the last draft.

I hope that answers most of the questions you all have asked about it. I don’t feel comfortable revealing the exact inspirations for the original idea; but just know that anyone out there who feels slighted by the system…this was for you. Just a way of venting…I don’t ever condone murder. Have fun reading and keep the emails coming!

How to commit the perfect murder?

The perfect murder. Something many current inmates thought that they had accomplished. In the book, The Club, you will see how this might be possible…

As for the questions…I have one that I do want to go ahead and answer. I mentioned in a previous blog post that I had a character that I had originally allowed to die but couldn’t do it! I re-wrote it to allow this particular one to live on! It affected everything, including the ending. I have had several of you bugging me to know who it was. Pastor Sparks was on the edge for a while and I kept him, but the one that was brought back completely from the dead is…Martin! Or Jack! Yes, he became too important for the possibility of a sequel.

So now you know…Martin/Jack was re-written back into the book to become a pivotal part of the future…

Keep asking and keep reading!

So many funny comments from you all. I almost named the book several things, one of which included the above tag line.  Committing the perfect murder–I love some of the comments you all have made to me. Several of you all have asked about a sequel. I have to say that it is on my mind and I have a very strong story line developed. In my log of ideas and story lines, I also have several chapters written for several different books that I have worked on developing through the years. My next novel, though, is completely inspired by some personal encounters that have changed me. I needed to write about them first. I will get back to the ideas and concepts that I have brewing; but this next book had to be written. More to come later. For now, please keep reading and asking questions. I will continue to answer you individually so as not to spoil the book for anyone.  As for the Pastor Sparks comments from several of you–I am not sure about his future. I will tell you that he is very dear to me. Hint Hint.

By the way, some have asked this and I will answer here. The length of the book is about 86,000 + words. It would be around 350 pages for a novel. It is a full length book.

Will there be a sequel to The Club?

A sequel has been in my thoughts since I wrote the opening chapter. This story begs to be continued. When you reach the end, email me and we will talk that way. I have not posted any comments yet in order to allow more of you to work your way through. There are a lot of characters; and I am not through having fun writing about them yet. So, yes a sequel will be written. My next book is far different, though. As I have said, I have been a closet writer for some time. That means that I have several novel “starts” and plan to explore some of these. The sequel may be pushed far ahead of these if you all sweet talk me 🙂

The next book in line is a bit of a change from The Club with many surprises. I am busy researching and sketching out the characters. I have a story “shell” and will begin feverishly filling in details. This book is coming along quite fast due to the time I have allotted to it. The Club was slow moving, as I worked on it in bursts. I will tell you more about the next book at a later time. For now, get to know Riley, Jackie, Martin, and so many others in The Club  HERE

Revenge, Justice, and Absolution

Have you known anyone who was hurt or abused? It is heart wrenching to say the least. Having to live through a horrible experience is one thing; but reliving it over and again in preparation for a trial and then during a trial only to have the accused walk free is more than anyone should have to endure. So many cases never even go to trial. It is one person’s word against another in so many cases. The justice system is set up that one is innocent until proven guilty; but for a young girl who has been attacked, she is forever marked and sometimes even ridiculed. We lived it through a family member and it broke our hearts. This book was written as a result of dealing with the pain. Of course, I don’t condone acting out any sort of revenge; but the idea of what someone might be pushed to do did cross my mind, as we watched others work through the pain. What is deep inside of someone may only be released when they are ripped open to their core. I wish only healing to those who are hurting. Absolution. It is a difficult and wonderful word. When we can release what tethers us to pain, we are free.  Mathew 6:14.

Domestic Violence and Donations

Hello again!

I have been talking some with a couple of groups and I am leaning toward a small non-profit organization that supports victims of domestic violence as my charity for this book. I hope you all will join me in supporting this worthy cause. I will post the page soon.

I have one character in the book that is a victim of this crime and she is based on no one in particular. I feel that with all the awareness on this subject in the news right now, maybe some brave women will have the courage to make a choice to get away from their abuser.

For now, I hope you are enjoying the book. I have had some very fun interactions about it with a few of you. Several people have asked who my favorite character in the book is. I really have to say that I loved creating several in particular. I will let you guess before I reveal who they are. I will tell you that one was originally killed off in an early version of the book; but because I loved the character so much, I re-wrote the storyline to keep this particular one alive.  That may have given it away!  There was a second character that I almost let die and decided to keep around as well. The power in writing! It is wonderful!

Take care and I will post again very soon.

Charleston and Charlottesville

Hello again!

Well, I have had several people ask if any of my characters are based on anyone. The answer is absolutely no.  My book is pure fiction and I don’t condone vengeance. All the characters are fictional as well. If there is any resemblance to anyone, it is purely coincidental.

As a note, though, I must tell you that I have lived in both Charleston, South Carolina and in Charlottesville, Virginia. Both towns were brought into my story because they are familiar to me. I had a little fun with the details; but most of it is just fun with very little connection to history. There is one large exception: the part about the development of Kiawah is somewhat true. Martin’s connection is purely made up, however. I will tell you that I did weave in the technological advancements into my timeline. You will find the introduction to the iPhone and a few other small references (such as a Walkman).

I will also tell you that I wrote this book in response to my feelings about two crimes that occurred in my own family. One was rather violent and ended in the death of a distant family member; and the other involved a close family member who was attacked and lived but the case never made it to trial. Struggling through the aftermath of both incidents, I discovered that most people have a part of them that wants revenge, no matter how nice or good we are on the outside. I am a Christian. That is my choice; and I chose to let God handle that for me. I cannot say that my human side did not struggle with it, though. This book was my way of venting a little as well as releasing some of my inner desire to write.

I have mentioned before and I will say it again. I will be donating some of the proceeds from this book (no matter how few or how many I sell) to a victims group; and I will identify that group soon. I feel that is the most positive way to help others who have been through what my family has endured. I wish no other family would ever have to know what it feels like to be a victim. It is truly a horrible reality to live.

Sincerely,

B Green
